The Hub is the City of Boston's employee intranet. It was designed to streamline the daily work and personnel self-service tasks of nearly 20,000 employees over a variety of devices.

ORGANIZE + REFINE

The project began with a period of intense research and discovery. The process involved several dozen stakeholder interviews, on-site usability testing of the original site, and a thorough assessment of content. Once the research and recommendations were complete, the Tactile team worked with the client and the development team, Acquia, to produce wireframes and look & feel designs. Meanwhile, the content team worked to assign all existing text to the new information architecture and ensure proper communication about revisions and additions.

Among other elements, the new designs include:

  • A beautiful, accessible look and feel
  • A focused home page that provides shortcuts to common user tasks, and presents news stories for The City of Boston
  • A series of curated pages that address frequent employee questions and provide a central access hub to site-wide resources
  • User-specific profiles that allow employees to easily update their personal information, see their current and past paychecks, request time off, and make changes to their healthcare policies
  • An informative and visually compelling Employee Directory
